Thrush infections are very common and usually occur in the parts of the body that are warm and moist, such as the mouth, vagina, anus, penis and groin regions of the body. Thrush or Candida, can become quite serious, especially in those with compromised immune systems. These include people suffering from illnesses such as cancer, Aids/HIV, diabetes and those who have had organ transplant surgery.
As you may be aware, Candida can be a very uncomfortable condition, especially if the infection is effecting the vagina, penis or groin regions. Most people carry the Candida yeast. It usually only becomes a problem when other factors such as those mentioned above affect the balance of the good and bad bacteria that reside throughout the body.
Apart from medical conditions there are other external factors that can contribute the the overgrowth of the yeast. Such things include using the oral contraceptive, antibiotics, steroids, excessive sugar intake, alcohol, yeasts, stress and HRT.
The symptoms are usually quite obvious, unfortunately many women self diagnose a vaginal yeast infection, when in fact more often than not, it is actually bacterial vaginosis. A vaginal yeast infection usually presents with a curd like discharge and usually is accompanied with redness, soreness, itchiness and or a burning sensation. Whereas bacterial vaginosis does is more liquid an has a very unpleasant fish like odor. This can also be accompanied with burning, itchiness and pain or burning whilst urinating.
Male yeast infection however usually presents itself patchy looking sores on the tip of the penis which is sometimes accompanied by a burning sensation.
Women and men both experience yeast infections in anal, groin and skin folds. In these areas the fungus usually looks red, inflamed and sore. The area is normally patchy and raised.
Many doctors first line treatment for thrush/yeast infections is to use antifungal type drugs. There are many types of antifungal drugs that are used by the medical profession. Depending on the condition, they are used as a cream on the skin (topically) or taken as a drug (orally). There even suppositories and douche type treatments depending on the severity of the condition.
Whilst these types of drugs appear to "cure" the condition, they have in most cases simply acted as a temporary fix. Resistance to this type of treatment is quit common. It is like trying to grow beautiful flowers when your garden is full of weeds. The same is true of the body. Using antifungal drugs is merely a band aid or temporary fix to the problem. Eradicating the body of Candida can be quite a task. That's why a whole body approach is required to rid yourself of the yeast permanently. Thankfully there are now some fantastic natural cure that help your body to overcome Candida infections for ever.
