What Is The Cause Of Hyperhidrosis And What Are The Different Treatments?

Hyperhidrosis is the result of over-active sweat production, particularly in certain parts of the body such as the feet, under arms, hands, back, groin and face. Un-like normal perspiration, which is used to control your body heat, in people with hyperhidrosis, there's too much sweat, not in response to external stimuli such as a hot room, a hot day or exercise but always.

If the abnormal perspiration doesn't occur at the same time as symptoms, and isn't generalised all over body perspiration, it's called primary hyperhidrosis. If the excess sweating is also accompanied by other symptoms and is a generalised sweating, then it's considered to be secondary hyper hidrosis which is usually the result of either drug side effects or an underlying medical condition.

It's not known what causes primary hyperhidrosis, but it's believed that there is over-stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system which causes excess sweating from certain parts of the body. Sweat glands are controlled by sections of the nervous system that isn't consciously controllable. It's also the same part of the nervous system that regulates the movement of our digestive tract... it operates without us doing anything to control it. It is believed that in hyperhidrosis, stress, anxiety and emotion might play active roles, although the cause isn't actually known, so that's just speculation.

One interesting clue regarding the cause of hyperhidrosis is that the problem appears to run in families which implies that specific genes may be involved.

Excessive sweating treatment, if it's primary hyperhidrosis, are many and varied. They range from basic over the counter anti-perspirants and deoderants for low-level hyper hidrosis to surgical intervention such as severing the nerve to the sweat glands, or removing the sweat glands themselves. Cheap home remedies for hyperhidrosis have been found to help many people, especially when many different remedies are used at the same time. It may be wise to think about simple, cheap options before drugs or expensive surgery.
